Overview

The Northampton Township Board of Supervisors, Parks and Recreation Board and the Parks and Recreation Staff are committed to providing Northampton residents with quality recreation programs and facilities. 

The Parks and Recreation Department oversees the operation of the Township’s five parks and the Recreation Center. The department offers a wide array of year round activities, summer camps, and special events. Programs are available for residents of all ages and encompass many different interests allowing residents to experience activities that promote fitness and wellbeing, encourage social development and ultimately enhance the quality of their life.  The Parks and Recreation Department provides the community with many opportunities for groups and individuals to participate in physical activity, for families and the community to gather and socialize, or for some just a simple respite.

The largest of the parks is the Municipal Park located on Hatboro and Bristol Road in Churchville. This 100+ acre park provides the residents with opportunity for active and passive recreation.  The Municipal Park is the home of the Miracle League fields; a baseball and multipurpose field designed specifically to enable individuals with special needs the opportunity to play sports.  The park also features a large playground, softball fields, soccer fields, basketball courts, a roller hockey rink, trails, picnic pavilions and an amphitheater. The amphitheater serves as the venue for the Parks and Recreation Sights and Sounds of Summer Series.  A Butterfly Garden of Remembrance, designed as a place of reflection for individuals to come and remember their loved ones who have passed on, has become a treasure of the Township.

Three neighborhood parks include, Hampton Estates located on St. Leonard’s Road, Big Meadow on Stoney Ford Road and Pheasant Run on Chapel Road are all located in Holland. These parks facilities are limited to ball fields and serve the local residents as facilities where organized sports groups can conduct their programs.

The Recreation Complex on Newtown-Richboro Road in Richboro serves the community as the hub of the recreation program.  The complex, commonly referred to as the Civic Center, houses a playground, lighted tennis courts which are also adaptable for pickleball, lighted basketball courts, baseball fields, a football field, soccer fields, a trail system that links to a walking track and the Recreation Center, where indoor programs are held throughout the year.

The Recreation Center located at 345 Newtown-Richboro Road is in operation year round and programs are offered seasonally. There truly is something for everyone!  A variety of adult group exercise classes as well as adult intramural sports, and special interest classes are offered year round.  The repertoire of children’s classes is endless and includes many favorites which includes a morning preschool program and is not limited to cooking, dance, theater and sports. During the summer months good old fashion fun continues with the Recreation Center serving as headquarters for the many camp programs held throughout the Township. Campers are able to enjoy use of the Northampton Swim Club located on the grounds of the Township owned Northampton Country Club.  The swim club serves as the home to the Northampton Swim Team and many residents enjoy a limited Monday through Friday swim club membership.  The Parks and Recreation Department is also proud to facilitate a variety of special events. In addition to the Summer Concert Series, bus trips and a discounted ticket program that residents look forward to year round are offered.. In connection with these events and other activities sponsored by the department, a number of great sponsorship and volunteer opportunities are available to businesses and individuals alike. Over the years, the Department has been presented with Excellence in Programming Awards by the Pennsylvania Recreation and Parks Society for activities, special events, and camp programs. Even long-term residents might be surprised to learn what Parks and Recreation has to offer.

In order to provide comprehensive recreation services to the community, the Parks and Recreation Department cultivates partnerships with the youth sports organizations, the Council Rock School District, the Northampton Township Business and Professional Development, many local businesses and other Township departments such as the James E. Kinney Center and the Free Library of Northampton Township.  The Parks and Recreation Department publishes a brochure quarterly and maintains a departmental website which announces the department’s programs and services.
