How Often Do The Streets Of Northampton Township Get Cleaned?

Northampton Township owns 2 street cleaning vehicles. The streets are scheduled to be cleaned twice a year. The first scheduled cleaning is in April, after all of the snow and ice storms have occurred. The second scheduled cleaning is in July, which is done to clean up any debris and stones that were leftover from the first cleaning process.

Street Cleaner

These street cleaning vehicles do not follow any specified zone maps or any order in which the streets of the Township are cleaned. One machine starts at the upper end of the township and the other machine starts at the lower end of the township, and these two machines clean all of the dedicated streets in the township until they meet somewhere in the middle.

What Happens To The Debris and Salt Picked Up By The Street Cleaners And Do The Tax Payers Save Money During This Process?

After the stones are picked up by the street cleaning vehicles, depending on the amount of debris mixed in with the stones, it gets dumped back in to the stone pile to be used a second time as backfill for excavating roads. This process saves the taxpayers money because the stones are being used twice.

An example of how the remaining stone is used: If the Northampton Public Works Department is excavating a hole in a road, they will use the recycled stones as a backfill for filling in the holes.
